Terms of Service
Last updated October 15, 2026
These terms cover your use of Cratesmith™, the crate design web app at app.cratesmith.app and the website at cratesmith.app (together, "Cratesmith"). By creating an account or using Cratesmith, you agree to them. If you use Cratesmith for a business, you agree on behalf of that business.
What Cratesmith is
Cratesmith is software that helps you design wooden shipping crates. It produces 3D models, cut lists, sheet and board layouts, build plans, customer quotes, CNC files and Mozaik export files. We sell access to the software. We don't build, sell or ship crates.
Your account
- You sign in with an email link. Keep access to that email secure; anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- You're responsible for what happens in your account and for keeping your contact email current.
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract to buy a paid plan.
Plans and payment
- Free is free. Pro and Founding Shop are one-time purchases. Shop and the Mozaik add-on are subscriptions billed monthly or yearly until you cancel.
- Payments are handled by Polar (polar.sh), our merchant of record. Polar's terms also apply to your purchase, and Polar collects any sales tax or VAT that's due.
- Subscriptions renew automatically. You can cancel anytime; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Founding Shop gives the buying account Shop access for as long as Cratesmith runs. It doesn't include the Mozaik add-on, which is billed separately.
- We may change prices for future billing periods. We'll email you at least 30 days before a price change affects a subscription you already have.
- Refunds follow our Refund Policy.
Check the numbers before you cut
Cratesmith does the math, but you're the builder. Before cutting material, quoting a customer, or running a CNC or Mozaik job, check the dimensions, materials, fasteners and quantities against your own shop standards and the requirements of whatever you're shipping. Cratesmith doesn't certify crates for any load, shipping standard or regulation (such as ISPM 15), and you're responsible for the crates you build and the quotes you send.
Your information
The details you enter, such as crate sizes, customer names, materials, prices and shop settings, belong to you. You give us permission to store and process them only to run Cratesmith for you, including syncing them between your devices. Files you import to read in your browser, such as a Mozaik Materials.dat, stay on your device and aren't uploaded.
Who owns Cratesmith and its output
Cratesmith, including its software, layouts, diagrams, build plan and quote formats, CNC files, the Mozaik-compatible crate files it creates (crate parts files and crate product libraries), and the Cratesmith name and logo, is owned by Cratesmith and protected by copyright and other laws. The plans and files Cratesmith makes for you (cut lists, sheet and board layouts, build plans, quotes, drawings, CNC files and Mozaik-compatible crate files) are part of that work. They are licensed to you, not sold.
This covers only what Cratesmith creates. Mozaik itself, its software, its own libraries and your shop's own Mozaik materials and settings belong to their owners and aren't claimed by Cratesmith.
Cratesmith doesn't claim ownership of any style, method or technique of building crates. Cleated crates, plywood panels, skids and the other ways crates are built are common knowledge in the trade, and anyone is free to build crates however they like. What Cratesmith owns is its own work: the software and the plans, drawings, files and other intellectual property it produces.
What you can do with Cratesmith plans and files. While your account is in good standing, you may use them inside your own business: to build crates in your own shop, run your own machines, quote and invoice your own customers, and share plans and quotes with your own employees and with the customer a specific crate is for.
What you can't do with them. You may not, for free or for money:
- sell, license, publish or give away Cratesmith plans or files, or anything copied or adapted from them, as plans, templates, drawings, files or a library, including on marketplaces, websites, forums or social media;
- share them with other shops or builders so they can build crates without their own Cratesmith account;
- copy Cratesmith's Mozaik crate products, crate parts files or crate library into another Mozaik library, template set or product that you share, sell or distribute;
- use them, or Cratesmith's software, to make a competing product or service, or to train software that does;
- remove Cratesmith names, marks or notices from them.
Crates you build from Cratesmith plans are yours to sell and ship. The plans and files behind them aren't.
If your account closes, you may keep using plans and files for crates you'd already built or quoted, but your permission to use them ends for everything else. We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules and take other legal action to protect our work.
Fair use
Don't try to get around plan limits or paid-feature locks, share one paid account across separate businesses, copy, resell or reverse-engineer the software, overload or attack the service, or use it for anything illegal. We may suspend accounts that do.
Trademarks and third-party software
Cratesmith™, the Cratesmith logo and the crate wall mark are trademarks of Cratesmith. Don't use them in a way that suggests we make, endorse or are connected to your products or services. Mozaik is a trademark of its owner. Cratesmith isn't made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Mozaik. Export files are built to work with the versions we test, but we can't guarantee they'll keep working if other software changes.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Cratesmith running and your data backed up, but the service is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We may add, change or remove features. If we ever shut Cratesmith down, we'll give at least 60 days' notice and a way to export your saved work.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Cratesmith isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as wasted material, lost profit or shipping damage, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Ending your account
You can stop using Cratesmith anytime and ask us to delete your account. We may close accounts that break these terms. Sections about ownership of Cratesmith and its plans and files, liability and payment owed survive after an account closes.
Changes to these terms
If we make a material change, we'll update the date above and email account holders before it takes effect. Using Cratesmith after that means you accept the new terms.
